2014 Reflection

This year been very crazy from moving to three class to having more children in our class! Overall I have kind of liked our class. The reason why i did not like this year is because it didn't feel like a class because in our last term we combined with another intermediate class and it is way too big! Another reason why i did like it is because I got to be in the same class as my friends.

I think this year I have been alright with working habits but I can do better. Although this year has been crazy I have enjoyed most of the year. I would like to thank my lovely teachers Mr Barks and Mrs Nua!

Athletics 2014

Waking up in the morning, I wasn't sure if athletics was going to be on or not. Until... I was told that it was after morning tea! I was so not ready for athletics! But ... It was going to be the last one for me as a year 8.


Our first event was discus we sat in the hot sun waiting for our turn, meanwhile Ms Tito taught us a dance. It was my turn to throw I slowly but carefully aimed where I wanted to throw the discus, I was focused and ready. I threw the discus, like an olympic athlete about to win gold. My throw was at least 10 meters.


The day continued with lots of events my favorite one was shot put and tug of war. although I was very tired I gave my best effort, and got the results I wanted. I cant wait to get to college to compete with people older than me.

Camp

This year our year eights from Point England school had the opportunity to go to Marsden Bay Christian Camp. On the very first day of camp we stopped for a long hike that took at least 2 hours. Sweat rushing down my face I stopped and admired the beautiful view right in front of me. By the time we finished the hike I couldn't feel my legs at all! we arrived to the camp sight. I was so tired by that time, we finally unpacked everything and headed straight to our cabins Lucky enough I got to sleep with my mates. Overall I didn't really think i was going to like camp. But in the end I did!


The first day ended, In our cabin I couldn't get enough sleep because my friend Jacob was right next to me and we kept talking for the rest of the night. I couldn't wait for the next day.

"Wake up" "Wake up" I heard It was my friend waking me up, I was very tired on the next day. Our first activity was Frisbee Golf we all had three chances to get the Frisbee inside the hoop it took four tries for me to finally get it in. My favorite camp activity was kayaking. 

Thank you letter

Dear Bruce thank you for looking after our group. It was a great experience to be with you thanks for taking your time to come to camp and look after us. we are very grateful for you. Id like to thank you for waking us up in the morning. I hope that we get to work with you again.

Tapa Pattern

For the last few weeks we have been working on tapa patterns. They look really nice we all had the chance to create one. My one is based on a traditional Tongan pattern that was created a long time ago. We got to dye our art to make the effect look original and old. What we used were... Brown paper bags. Brown and black crayons. Brown dye and pencil. Our first task was to find a pattern that we were going to use. The outcome of mine was very good I really liked it I hope we get to create more art during this term.  

Robyn Lamont

Today we have been working with Robyn Lamont she does line art and shapes. We all had the opportunity to work with her. She does amazing work. My friends and I all sat on the same desk where we got lessons how to make our art better.

My artwork was alright I think i couldn't done better with it because I wasn't concentrating. I cant wait till we get another lesson from her.

Tangle Art

This week we have been creating a piece. This artwork is interesting because there is no beginning and no end. My teacher chose this particular artwork because this term we have combined our class with another class and it would be a great way to start the term with art.

We first searched up a pattern to draw when we all had a day to finish our paper.

Ms Paget gave each of us a piece of paper that had lines. The only instructions we were given was to create a pattern, it could be any kind of pattern. I have created mine and the outcome of it is very good. I cant wait to learn more and create more of our art.

There was a lot of research that went into the process. Finding a unique pattern was a little bit difficult

Avatar

This term we have been working on a task to create our own avatar it had to relate to your house colors mine is Matatua (green). I have chosen to create this because it fits the criteria for my house color. I have chosen to put my avatar as level 1 because I still need help with managing myself and trying to sit with the right people.

Day 1 reflection

What a surprise to the beginning of the term! Our new topic is Art Attack. Our class has now combined with class 5, it has been a very crazy week since there is 60 students in a class!  

The thing I liked about the change would have to be that, the combination of classes. One other thing is that we have most of our friends so we can chill out together. And we have more space to work in.

My reaction to the supposedly good “News” wasn't very excited or happy. Personally I dislike the idea of mixing classes together.

The thing that we didn't really enjoy is that we have too many people in our class. It also is too loud to concentrate.

Walking into the street I noticed there were a lot of tables in the space. After immersion assembly we walked into the street instead of our classroom and sat in in our house lines.

Managing Self

This week we have been working on a task to make a mtv. From my perspective we have managed our time very well we had one week of movie making we finished before the time frame we were given, it was also was a good movie. The thing that wasn't good was our camera had this lagging problem. The thing I need to work on next is contribute more with the boys to help plan. From rate out of 1 to 3 for managing myself I would give myself a 2 because although I was working well I would still muck around at times.

Heal The World

David Dallas

David Dallas is one of my favourite rappers. He is a new zealander from the south side. He is now becoming famous in America. My favourite song that he has created is southside.

Dangers and Effects of Marijuana

For the last couple of weeks we have been learning at the Life Education Caravan about drugs. I have learnt a lot about drugs and what they can do to you. A very common drug around New Zealand is Marijuana it is an easy access for teenagers and adults. Drugs can cause serious injuries, hallucinations, and many other things but a very important thing for teenagers is brain damage. Many teenagers today are now doing drugs, It is very bad for them because it can damage their brain since there brain has not fully developed.

My Mascot

This term we have been learning about mascots and pretended that the next Commonwealth Games was coming to New Zealand and it was our job to create and design our mascot and it had to do with an New Zealand icon. Mascots usually bring good luck to the event. My mascots name is tiki he is from Auckland and is a chief and warrior. He symbolises Good luck and trying your hardest. He has being around auckland since the Treaty of Waitangi. He wears traditional maori clothes. Although he looks very scary he is a nice man whenever visitors come to his village he welcomes them to his village to stay. He wants Visitors before they leave to know that New Zealand is a place to visit again.

Commonwealth Games

This year is the Commonwealth Games in Scotland Glasgow and I have been looking at a particular athlete that is  competing in the games. Her name is Valerie Adams she is a professional shot-put player. She has won many medals and has competed in many events including the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games and many more. In the year 2012 the London Olympics Valerie Adams won a silver medal she was disappointed that she did not win first place, little did she know she was going to be re awarded the gold medal ,because Nadzeya Ostapchuk failed two drug test and was disqualified. This year in the Commonwealth Games she won a gold medal for Nz and many more to come.

200 Girls Abducted By Boko Hareem

My thoughts on the Abduction is incredibly sad. I think that the government should work harder to find these girls and return them to their family. The only thing the family has been given is a #BRINGBACKOURGIRLS poster and it has not motivated anyone to do anything. 50 have escaped from the boko hareem camp and are still searching for them.
